Brewer Park Pool

The mandate of this project, located at 100 Brewer Way, Ottawa, is to create an aquatic complex and a community space. This project also requires studying the structure and the site to create spaces. The architecture of a building and a project stops where are the property boundaries.

Based on the previous sentence, the concept of this project is to connect the building to the site so that they can almost make one. When a drop of water hits the ground, it enters the earth, but when you look at a lake, it contrasts with the ground. This is the reason why this building sometimes contrasts with the ground. In order to achieve this concept, the study of the site began at the scale of the neighbourhood. The building should be as low as possible to connect with the site but becomes higher as it approaches the arena and the primary school in order to maintain some dialogue with the neighbourhood buildings.

The study then continues within the property boundaries. The site is divided into four zones. The first is the underground area, the therapeutic baths are underground but capture some light due to the skylights. The skylights continue to the walls of the building and become windows and eventually skylights on the roof. The floor material of this area is the same material as the building's walls. The second zone is the community orcher. The exterior wall of the community room is a green screen in order to communicate with the community orcher. The third area is the plaza. It is the area that contrasts with the building since it becomes higher because of the excavation of the plaza. The walls of the building in this area are mostly glass in order to communicate with the transparency of the pools. The fourth area is the drop off area. It is the area where the occupant decides to go to the roof or enter the building. One can find on the roof a large place to gather and take a sun bath for example. Half of this large roof is a green roof in order to recover rainwater. Finally, in the building, there is a community room, a playground area and an arts and crafts area, a pool area and therapeutic baths that connect either to the pool area or to a transitional steam room.
