Pavilion on the Rideau Canal

This project is located on Pig Island on the Rideau Canal, Ottawa. The mandate is to design a pavilion that would orient users and create spatial areas on the ground level and on the canal. Throughout the year, the level of the canal varies and it becomes one meter lower during the winter.
In order to acheive this project, one can reach the pavilion on a long ramp coming from the bicycle path. During the summer, it can also be accessed by canoe or kayak on a dock at the end of the pavilion. The level of the dock varies according to the level of the canal, there is a ramp on one of its sides so one can still access the pavilion. It is also accessible for skaters during winter. Also, during winter, the dock becomes a place for ice fishing. On the second floor there is a café, a place to rent canoes or kayaks during the summer and skates for the winter. The pavilion lets the trees pass through the building, the occupants can then eat while being surrounded by nature.
